The iPod touch Preview – An iPhone without the phone

Well, the rumours were true, Apple has released a new iPod with a touch screen interface.  But what really surprises me is that the iPod Touch looks just like an iPhone where recently the price has been slashed by a third.

So, I am watching the news, and I found out that Apple has updated their iPod range (Woo-Hoo!) to add an iPod with a touch screen interface.  I wasn’t expecting anything more than the usual of a normal iPod’s capabilities, but then I find out that they have added the Safari web browser, an 802.11b/g wireless chip, the multi touch interface; and get this, you can download music off the iTunes Music Store straight off the device.  Now this is very cool, albeit the requirement of being connected to a wireless network/hot spot.  This is something that has not really been done before, and it shows that Apple are truly the leaders in the MP3 market.

Before I forget, the nano and the iPod Classic (new name, pass it on) have been updated.  The classic can hold up to 160GB of storage, roughly 40,000 songs. Also, there is the introduction of Cover Flow, which can be found on the iPhone, and in OSX Leopard.  The iPod Nano has become smaller, and now can play video on it’s tiny screen.  Now that’s throwing in the kitchen sink…

So there you have it, yet another iPod release.  The iPod Touch looks like the gadget to own for those that don’t wish to, or don’t have the resources to own an iPhone.  And before I forget, they still have those crappy earphones…
